Relief printing: multiple color printing, reduction method Thursday evenings 6-9pm Interested in multiple color relief printing without a press? Join Kathryn Hunter in a class where you'll learn to create and print a multiple color linoleum block; from design, transfer of image, carving, to printing and registration. This class consists of four night classes. The first class will focus on the design and carving the first reduction. The second, third, and fourth class will focus on hand printing the block in a separate color each class. The result will be a small edition of multiple color reduction block prints. You'll be able to take the knowledge with you to make reduction relief prints at home. Relief printing is one of the oldest forms of printing. A flat block is carved. What is left (the raised areas) is inked and the inked surface prints when put in contact with paper. Additional materials fee: $40-- materials provided are as follows: You can gather your own supplies if you'd like. Let me know if you'd like the list of materials to buy yourself. There is a small fee of $15 for ink and shop supplies if you bring your own tools and linoleum. Class will take place at the shop, 521 N 19th St, corner of Main St (building with big mural down the side- entrance is in the middle of the building on the Main street side) Please register by May 25th. Patterning with Block Printing (Wallpaper-Style) Date: Sundays, May 10th and 24th, 10am-4pm Patterns are in everything we see in the visual world, from textiles to rugs, wallpaper to tiles, nature to microorganisms. Join us for an extended workshop of printing patterns. We will explore the concept of patterning, creating original patterns based on nature, pop culture, or imagination. Learn to carve relief blocks for block printing patterns on fabric or large paper. The first class will involve planning, drawing, and carving relief blocks. The second class will be devoted to printing. Students should bring image source materials (books, magazines, natural elements-leaves, twigs, stones, photos) to class.
